GUPTI – DANGAMAL EXPLORING BHITARKANIKA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, full day sailing into the rich and unique mangrove ecosystem with creeks, mudflats, and estuaries to arrive in Dangamal, en route looking for Estuarian Crocodile, Spotted Deer, Monitor Lizard, Wild Boar, Indian Python, Rhesus Macaque and variety of birds. Time permitting, visit the Orientation Centre. Later sail back to Gupti, where the view of the forest and the setting sun are simply mesmerizing. Dinner followed by a relaxed evening.

Varanasi is considered the holiest city in Hinduism and Jainism. It also played an important role in the development of Buddhism. In the evening ride the country boat to the Dashashwamedh Ghat to see the “Ganga Aarti” performed by a group of priests lined up on the riverbank chanting mantras and performing the prayer ritual with lamps, incense, and traditional instruments to honor the river.

Day 2
VARANASI – CRUISING DOWNSTREAM (B/L/D)
After breakfast stroll in the Vishwanath Gali (street), and experience the hustle and bustle of devotees and road side vendors. Visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple for “Darshan” and offering prayers to Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of the city. Return to the ship by midday and begin cruising downstream viewing the countryside and enjoying lunch onboard.

VARANASI – CRUISING UPSTREAM (B/L/D)
After breakfast we sail upstream towards Varanasi, arriving by midday at Ravidas Ghat. Post lunch visit to Sarnath the seat where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment in Bodhgaya. Visit the local bazaar for shopping the famous “banarasi” silk, muslin, perfumes, and other handicrafts that Varanasi is famous for.

After breakfast drive in cars to the 8-9th century excavation site of the Vikramshila University and walk around the ruins. Vikramshila University was an important Buddhist centre of learning under the rule of the Pala Dynasty. Subjects like theology, philosophy, grammar, metaphysics, and logic were taught here. We return to the ship and sail towards Sultanganj while enjoying lunch onboard.

WED, 16 OCT 2024 SULTANGANJ – MUNGER (B/L/D)
After breakfast excursion to Sultanganj, which is notable for two prominent granite rock islands in the river connected to the mainland by a causeway. On one of the islands is a mosque; on the other larger one is the Ajgaibinath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. We will visit the Shiva temple. Return to the ship and sail towards Munger while enjoying lunch onboard.

THU, 17 OCT 2024: MUNGER (B/L/D)
After breakfast visit the Chandika Sthan Temple, which is dedicated to Goddess Shakti. It is one of the fifty-one Shakti Peethas, associated with the legend of Lord Vishnu who to save the world from Lord Shiva’s wrath, cut into pieces the corpse of Devi Sati that Shiva was carrying. Return to ship for lunch. Thereafter visit the Munger Fort and the local market popular for fruits, vegetables, textiles, and readymade garments.

Today we sail full day through wonderful countryside to Patna, enjoying breakfast and lunch. Patna is the capital of the State of Bihar and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world founded in 490 BCE as Pataliputra.

SUN, 20 OCT 2024 PATNA DISEMBARK / NALANDA – BODHGAYA (B/L/D)
Disembark early morning with packed breakfast and drive to the World Heritage Site of Nalanda which was a renowned Mahavihara (Buddhist monastic university) in ancient Magadha operating from 427 until 1197 CE. Continue to Rajgir, which was one of Buddha’s most important preaching locations. Lunch at a restaurant here before we continue to Bodhgaya, which is one of the four pilgrimage sites related to the life of Gautama Buddha.

MON, 21 OCT 2024 BODHGAYA (B/L/D)
After breakfast at hotel visit the World Heritage Mahabodhi Temple, which was the place where Gautama Buddha attained Enlightenment under the “Bodhi Tree.” Return to hotel for lunch Thereafter spend the day exploring the several Buddhist temples and monasteries that have been built by the people of various countries like Bhutan, Mongolia, China, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Tibet, and Vietnam. These buildings reflect the architectural style exterior and interior decoration of their respective countries.

TUE, 22 OCT 2024 DRIVE BODHGAYA / VARANASI (B/L/D)
After early breakfast at the hotel drive to Varanasi, the holiest town for the Hindus. It also played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel and have lunch. In the evening visit the ghats to experience the activities and hustle-bustle in the by-lanes. Continue to the riverside and witness the evening “Ganga Aarti” ritual.

Day 11
WED, 23 OCT 2024 VARANASI – SARNATH / DEPARTURE (B)
At early dawn enjoy a sunrise boat tour to witness the incredible scenes along the holy Ganges River. Return to hotel for breakfast. Thereafter visit the archaeological site of Sarnath, where Buddha after attaining enlightenment at Bodhgaya, preached his first discourse to his first five disciples. The Dhamek Stupa here is one of the eight stupas where Buddha’s ashes after his cremation were divided and buried.

Thereafter transfer to the airport for onward journey.

After breakfast, a Panoramic Tour of Dalhousie Square’s heritage buildings; St. John’s Church and, Victoria Memorial. Return to the ship and sail to Bandel. Lunch onboard. In the evening visit the Hooghly Imambara, a famous Shiya pilgrimage center that provides housing for pilgrims as well as classrooms. We sail onward to Kalna.

After breakfast ride e-rickshaws through the town to visit the Rajbari Temple complex. The Nabakailas Temple contains 108 eight-slope-roofed shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Other temples in the complex feature diverse architecture and terracotta plaques depict themes of Hindu epics and various aspects of day-to-day life. Return to the ship walking through the local vegetable market. Begin sail towards the shore-side village of Matiari, while having lunch onboard.

MATIARI – KHUSHBAGH (B/L/D)
Early today walk in the village to see and experience the craftsmen at work. These master craftsmen utilize recycled copper to create exquisite pots, platters, and more from their workshops in the village. Return to ship for breakfast and sail to Khushbagh. Lunch onboard. In the evening walk through farmland to visit the Mughal-style Garden built by Nawab Ali Wardi Khan. It houses the Nawab’s private mosque and the tomb of the last Nawab of Bengal Siraj-ud-Daula whom the British East India Company defeated at the Battle of Plassey.

After breakfast explore the village of Baranagar, a lovely example of life in rural India. Visit the 18th-century Char Bangla terracotta temple, built by Rani Bhabani, the landlady of Natore. Return to ship and sail to Murshidabad. Lunch onboard. Thereafter visit the Hazarduari Palace which dominates the waterfront. Ride e-rickshaws to the Katra mosque, which has distinctive minarets.

After a restful morning, enjoying breakfast and observing the local life along the riverbanks, we arrive in Mayapur, the headquarters of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Post lunch stroll in the pilgrim’s bazaar, meet Krishna followers, and visit the temple, which is comparable in size to the Vatican. The temple has been largely funded by Alfred B. Ford, the great-grandson of car maker Henry Ford.

MAYAPUR – CHANDERNAGORE – KOLKATA (B/L/D)
Today we sail to Chandernagore which was established as a French colony. Post breakfast explore the French colonial buildings along the promenade, including the former French governor’s residence, now converted into a museum that features an exhibition of items that depict life during this period. Also, visit the Sacred Heart Church which marks the beauty of the architecture during the French period. Return to the ship and continue our journey to Kolkata while enjoying lunch onboard. En route view the festivities of the “Festival of Lights” Diwali or Deepawali. It is the most significant and famous festival of India which is celebrated every year all over the country. It is a sacred Hindu festival that symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. People clean and whitewash their houses and decorate them with earthen lamps, electric lights, and lanterns. Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth, and Ganesh, the God of Goodwill and Prosperity are worshipped after sunset to get blessings of health, wealth, and prosperity. Firecrackers and sky lanterns light up the sky.

SAT, 2 NOV 2024 KOLKATA – KALNA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, visit Mother Teresa’s home and tomb. Mother Teresa started the Missionaries of Charity and worked here until she died in 1997. The permanent exhibition includes a visit to her room, where we learn her life story and see her charity that is still active.

Return to the ship for lunch while we begin our journey sailing past the iconic bridges and through areas where various European settlers had established East Indian Companies, leaving many remnants of their settlements from the 17th through 19th Centuries.

SUN, 3 NOV 2024 KALNA – MATIARI (B/L/D)
After breakfast ride e-rickshaws to visit the Rajbari temple complex. The Nabakailas temple contains 108 eight-slope-roofed shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Other temples in the complex feature diverse architecture and famous terracotta plaques depicting themes of Hindu epics and day-to-day life. Return to the ship, strolling through the local vegetable market. Begin sailing towards the shore-side village of Matiari, while having lunch onboard.

MON, 4 NOV 2024 MATIARI – MURSHIDABAD (B/L/D)
Take an early walk in the village to see and experience master craftsmen at work, utilizing recycled copper to create exquisite pots, platters, and more from their workshops in the village. Return to the ship for breakfast and sail to Khushbagh. Lunch onboard. In the evening walk through farmers’ fields to visit the Mughal-style Garden built by Nawab Ali Wardi Khan. It houses the Nawab’s private mosque and the tomb of the last Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daula, whom the British East India Company defeated at the historic Battle of Plassey. Evening cultural music and dance program.

TUE, 5 NOV 2024 MURSHIDABAD – MAYAPUR (B/L/D)
Morning explore Murshidabad, a hidden architectural gem with dramatic whitewashed colonial-era structures. Ride horse carts (local buggy) to the Katra Mosque. Built by the first Nawab of Murshidabad – Murshid Quli Khan in 1724-25, this mosque has distinctive minarets from which the muezzin calls the faithful to Friday prayers. Then visit the Hazarduari Palace, which dominates the waterfront, built during the reign of Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah (1824-1838 AD) by an English architect, McLeod Duncan, in the Greek “Doric” style. The palace has more than a thousand real and false doors in the vast corridors and is filled with colonial-era antiques, artwork, and manuscripts.

WED, 6 NOV 2024 MAYAPUR – CHANDERNAGORE – KOLKATA (B/L/D)
Morning walks through the pilgrim’s bazaar, meet Krishna’s followers, and glimpse their fascinating culture and colourful statues of Krishna. Visit the temple, which is comparable in size to the Vatican and has been largely funded by Alfred B. Ford, the great-grandson of Henry Ford.

Return to the ship and sail to the fabled French colony of Chandernagore. There, explore the charming colonial buildings along the promenade, including the former French governor’s residence, now converted into a museum that features items depicting life during that period. Also, visit the 150-year-old Sacred Heart Church. Return to the ship and sail to Kolkata, arriving by late evening.

Day 7
THU, 7 NOV 2024 KOLKATA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, visit the glorious Flower Market, where you can see artists fashioning garlands, ornaments, and other items out of flowers and leaves for temples, weddings, and other uses. After this, wander the by lanes of Kumartuli, a traditional potters’ quarter renowned for its beautiful sculptures of Goddess idols and more.

Return to the ship and after lunch, set off on a panoramic tour of Dalhousie Square’s heritage buildings; St. John’s Church and the Victoria Memorial Museum, built in the Indo-Saracenic revivalist style.

Today is Chhath Puja, a folk festival which is dedicated to the solar deity, Surya (the Sun God) to show gratitude and thankfulness for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and to request that certain wishes be granted. The festival can be observed during sailing on the Ganges. You would see many devotees thronging the riverbank for ritual activities and hear the echoes of Hindu chanting.

After breakfast visit the Tomb of Lord Cornwallis, one of the major figures of Indian and British history. Return to the ship and sail full day towards Buxar a prominent town of western Bihar, bordering the State of Uttar Pradesh.

BUXAR – GHAGHRA MOD (B/L/D)
After breakfast visit the Ram Rekha Ghat. It is associated with a legend from the epic Ramayana that after killing the demoness Tadka, Lord Ram to cleanse himself from the sin of killing a woman, took a bath in the Ganges here. Also visit the Sita Ram Upadhyay Museum, named after a local resident who had donated his personal collection which includes archaeological objects, coins and manuscripts. Return to ship and sail towards Ghaghra Mod, the confluence where River Ghaghra meets River Ganges.

After breakfast excursion to Sultanganj, which is notable for two prominent granite rock islands in the river connected to the mainland by a causeway. On one of the islands is a mosque; on the other larger one is the Ajgaibinath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. We will visit the Shiva temple. Return to the ship and sail towards Bateshwarsthan while enjoying lunch onboard.

BATESHWARSTHAN – SAMTAGHAT (B/L/D)
After breakfast drive in cars to the 8-9th century excavation site of the Vikramshila University and walk around the ruins. Vikramshila University was an important Buddhist centre of learning under the rule of the Pala Dynasty. Subjects like theology, philosophy, grammar, metaphysics, and logic were taught here. We return to the ship and sail towards Samtaghat. You will be fascinated by the passing landscape and the lively life on the river.

SAMTAGHAT – FARAKKA – JANGIPUR (B/L/D)

After breakfast set out to explore Sibsagar, which was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam. Also visit the Dhakeshwari Temple, dedicated to goddess Dhakeshwari, the protector of Dhaka. Lunch at a local restaurant. This morning we sail to Kaukhali, a small riverine village in the Barisal district of Bangladesh. It has a launch & steamer station which date from British period. Post lunch visit a Kumar Pada (potters’ colony), the local market, and a Hindu Vaishnavite temple with a Cremation Ground adjacent to it. Return to ship.

KAUKHALI – KARAMJOL – MONGLA (B/L/D)
Today we sail to Karamjol. Ride the country boat to the Karamjol Forest Reserve Centre, which protects a vast range of mammal, insects, bird species, reptiles, and fish. Gangetic River dolphins and salt-water crocodiles can also be spotted. Return to the ship for lunch. Sail onward to Mongla town, a link seaport and the gateway to the Sundarbans on the Bangladesh side.

We sail to Kalna enjoying breakfast and lunch onboard. Upon arrival ride e-rickshaws to visit the Rajbari temple complex. The Nabakailas temple contains 108 eight-slope-roofed shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Other temples in the complex feature diverse architecture and terracotta plaques depicting themes of Hindu epics and day-to-day life. Return to the ship walking through the local vegetable market. You may get a chance to witness the Dol-Jatra procession in which the idols of Krishna and Radha are paraded on highly decorated palanquins and the folks sing and playfully spray gulal (dry colours).

Ride the country boat across the river to Mayapur, the headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Stroll in the pilgrim’s bazaar, meet Krishna followers, and visit the temple, which is comparable in size to the Vatican.

Arrive by evening at a jetty in Dhaka, the Capital of Bangladesh.

After breakfast disembark and proceed to visit Sonargaon, the medieval capital of undivided Bengal. Here, visit the Panam City, the Sadarbari that houses a Folk Art Museum and the Goaldi Mosque. Lunch at a local restaurant. Thereafter panoramic drive tour of Central Dhaka’s heritage buildings like the Dhaka University, National Assembly and the Old High Court. Also visit the Dhakeshwari Temple, dedicated to goddess Dhakeshwari, the protector of Dhaka. Transfer to the airport for your onward journey.

Morning excursion by e-rickshaws of Fulia, a textile town located beside the river Ganges. Fulia specializes in a combination of Jacquard and Jamdani Saree Weaving. Jamdani is typically handloom woven fabric using a mixture of cotton and gold thread. It is one of the most time and labor-intensive forms of handloom weaving, and the most artistic textile rich in motifs.

Post lunch ride the Toto (e-rickshaw) to see Baluchari sari weaving, famous for their elaborate ‘palloo (border or anchal). Nabadwip is blessed with numerous old and new temples belonging to different Hindu sects. Explore the riverbank village by walking to see the local people engaged in handloom weaving of cotton fabric, mainly saris and scarves. Return to ship and sail onward to Kalna.

Return to ship and sail to Chandernagore which was established as a French colony. explore the charming colonial buildings along the promenade, including the former French governor’s residence, now converted into a museum that features items depicting life during that period. Also, visit the 150-year-old Sacred Heart Church. Return to the ship and continue our journey to Kolkata while enjoying lunch onboard. We arrive in Kolkata by evening.

After breakfast drive in cars to the 8-9th century excavation site of the Vikramshila University and walk around the ruins. Vikramshila University was an important Buddhist centre of learning under the rule of the Pala Dynasty. Subjects like theology, philosophy, grammar, metaphysics, and logic were taught here. We return to the ship and sail towards Sultanganj while enjoying lunch onboard.

After breakfast excursion to Sultanganj, which is notable for two prominent granite rock islands in the river connected to the mainland by a causeway. After breakfast visit the Chandika Sthan Temple, which is dedicated to Goddess Shakti. It is associated with a legend from the epic Ramayana that after killing the demoness Tadka, Lord Ram to cleanse himself from the sin of killing a woman, took a bath in the Ganges here. Also visit the Sita Ram Upadhyay Museum, named after a local resident who had donated his personal collection that include archaeological objects, coins and manuscripts.

After breakfast ride e-rickshaws through the town of Kalna to visit the enchanting Rajbari Temple complex. The Nabakailas Temple contains 108 eight-slope-roofed shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Other temples in the complex feature diverse architecture and terracotta plaques depict themes of Hindu epics and various aspects of day-to-day life in the region. Return to the ship walking through the local vegetable market. Begin sail towards Kolkata and arrive by the evening. Enjoy cultural performance onboard.

Thereafter Panoramic Tour of Dalhousie Square’s heritage buildings; St. John’s Church, Victoria Memorial, and Mother Teresa’s Home.
